Chandigarh: Punjab Election Commission is all set to handle the Omicron scare with their meticulous elections poll preparedness ahead of the Assembly Elections.  

The Election Commission and the health department coordinate with each other to conduct COVID-free elections in the state. 

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, Dr S Karuna Raju, told news agency ANI that keeping COVID19 in mind, safe and environmental-friendly elections would be held. The Health Secretary everyday coordinates the health scenario with the Electoral Officer. All poll parties are to be vaccinated mandatorily and all COVID-related bio-waste material to be disposed-off properly. 

"Rationalization of polling booths has been completed, voters list is in its final stage, and 80 per cent of assistant returning officers have undergone their training to oversee the candidate nominees, for the upcoming Punjab Assembly Polls," said Dr S Karuna Raju.

Also, a total of 2.12 crore voters, especially, focussed to add more transgenders to the voters' list. More than 24,000 booths have been established. A state security plan has thus been prepared, our requirements conveyed to the Election Commission.
