Congress will act immediately after Goa elections: Rahul Gandhi

Panaji: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi exuded confidence that party will form the government in Goa.

He said that Congress will act immediately after poll results are announced on March 10. He has indirectly confessed that the delay in taking decision has proved costly to the party in 2017 Goa elections.

Came down heavily on ruling party, Rahil Gandhi said that BJP had stolen the mandate of the people in 2017 Goa elections.

"This was not the original mandate of Goa. Goa had chosen the Congress party's government five years ago. The BJP stole the mandate of Goa by corruption and giving money," Rahul Gandhi said.

In the 2017 Goa elections, Congress had won 17 Assembly seats and BJP 13, but delay in taking timely action by the grand old party was paved the way for BJP to form the government in coastal state.

BJP has made an alliance with Mahrashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Goa Forward Party (GEP) within 12 hours after results were declared in 2017.

BJP President Amit Shah has send Goa in-charge, Nitin Gadkari to the state to form the government.

Mr. Gadkari took a special flight to Goa on March 11, 2017 evening, held a series of meeting with regional party. Gadkari was able to garner the support from MGP and GEP.

Later Gadkari said that he had received a call from Shah after the Goa election 2017 results were announced and the two discussed the possible political alliances that would help the BJP form a government in Goa.

At a time when BJP leader Gadkari was conducting hectic parleys with regional outfits to win the support of the regional parties, then Congress’ general secretary in-charge of Goa, Digvijaya Singh, did not made any attempt to form the Congress led government in Goa despite Congress had emerged as single largest party.

Congress failed to form a government in Goa in 2017 even when it needed just four Assembly seats to stake a claim. Subsequently Congress legislators were defected to BJP.
