Jaipur: Curfew was relaxed in violence-hit Karauli in Rajasthan for two hours on Thursday, and it has been extended till April 7 at Midnight considering the law and order situation.

The order to prolong the curfew was issued by Karauli District Collector Rajendra Shekhawat, who stated that the current circumstances were "not usual for the law and order situation."

However, exceptions are being made for students in grades 10 and 12, who will be permitted to enter exam centres after displaying their hall tickets.

Furthermore, officials stated that a two-hour relaxation was given to allow people to go out and make necessary purchases and that subsequent relaxations will be provided after assessing the current law and order situation.

The communal violence erupted as a motorcycle procession commemorating Nav Samvatsar (Hindu new year) was stoned while going through a Muslim-majority area.

The violence immediately erupted, shops and vehicles were set on fire, and approximately 35 people were hurt in the assault, according to authorities.

Members of Hindu organisations such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and the Bajrang Dal are said to have organised the gathering.

Following the incident, a curfew was enforced, mobile internet connections were blocked, and 600 police officers, including 50 officers, were deployed in the city. In addition, three Indian Police Service (IPS) policemen from Lucknow were dispatched to Karauli.

On April 5, Rajendra Rathore, the deputy leader of the opposition in the Rajasthan legislature, said that the stone-pelting on the motorcycle demonstration was planned and that the police had failed to protect the rally.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader also claimed that inhabitants of the Muslim neighbourhood had stockpiled hundreds of stones in the days leading up to the Hindu new year, and he chastised the police for failing to conduct a 'drone scan' of the rooftops that day.

According to the police, 46 people have been arrested, and seven more have been detained for questioning. Cases have been filed against 13 of the accused.
