Filing of nominations for the first phase UP elections for 58 seats in 11 districts has commenced January 14 under strict Covid guidelines. Nine seats are reserved for scheduled castes out of 58.

Lucknow: Indian National Congress (INC) on Monday released a list of 30 star campaigners for the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh Elections. 

Party chief Sonia Gandhi, ex-PM Dr Manmohan Singh, party leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel, Sachin Pilot and others to the campaign.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had released the first list of 125 candidates for the assembly elections. The first list has 40 per cent women and 40 per cent youth candidates.

After releasing the first list, Priyanka Gandhi said, "Out of the total 125 candidates, 40 per cent are women and 40 per cent are the youth. With this historic initiative, we hope to bring in a new kind of politics in the sate."

Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Uttar Pradesh from 10 February to 7 March 2022 in seven phases to elect all 403 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022.
