Pramod Sawant takes oath as Goa Chief Minister

Panaji: Pramod Sawant took oath as Goa Chief Minister for the 2nd consecutive term on Monday.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ceremony at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Goa.

BJP's Vishwajit Rane, Mauvin Godinho, Ravi Naik, Nilesh Cabral, Subhash Shirodkar, Rohan Khaunte, Govind Gaude, and Atanasio Monserrate, took oath as Goa's cabinet ministers.

BJP President JP Nadda, Haryana CM ML Khattar, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai were present at the ceremony.

Earlier, CM designate Pramod Sawant handed over the order for appointing Council of Ministers to Goa Governor at Raj Bhavan.

BJP's central leadership kept mum over the appointment of new Chief Minister to Goa and Uttarakhand despite the party’s comfortable victory in both the State in just-concluded Assembly elections.

BJP central leadership was weighing between Pramod Sawant and Vishwajit Rane.   Pramod Sawant who led the party to power was a strong contender for the CM post and party senior MLA, Vishwajit Rane was also in the race,  Rane joined BJP from Congress in 2021.

Another reason for the delay in declaring the CM name was said to be the unavailability of auspicious days between March 10 and 17.
