Monsoon session of Parliament will begin in July

New Delhi: The monsoon session of Parliament is likely to begin in July 19. 

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that the Parliament session will be held as per its regular schedule from July to August 13, 2021. 

According to the convention, the monsoon session must be held in the second or third week of July. The previous session of the Parliament was ended sine die on March 25. According to the norms, the next session has to be convened within six months, and this period will end on September 14.  

Three sessions of Parliament were ended abruptly due to the Covid pandemic. In 2020, the monsoon session was supposed to start in July but had begun in September 2020. Three sessions, budget session, winter session ended sine day without having much business. 

Covid spread under control as of now and anticipated the third wave of covid is approaching in coming months, the government does not want to postpone the session to September, sources said. 

The monsoon session will be a short one. So far, most of the MPs have got at least one dose of vaccine. Parliament has followed covid protocol in the last three sessions, and separate sitting arrangements have been made to the members in galleries to maintain physical distance; the same protocol will be continued in the forthcoming session.
