Indian-Origin Doctor in US Charged with Trading Drugs for Sexual Favours
NEW YORK (Jul 20): A New Jersey-based Indian-origin doctor has been charged with illegally prescribing powerful drugs to patients in exchange for sexual favours, the US Attorney’s Office announced in a press release.
Ritesh Kalra, 51, from Secaucus, is accused of running a “pill mill” from his medical office, where he allegedly handed out high-dose opioids—such as oxycodone—and promethazine with codeine without valid medical justification.
“Doctors are entrusted with safeguarding public health,” said US Attorney Alina Habba. “But as alleged, Dr. Kalra exploited that trust to fuel addiction, sexually exploit vulnerable patients, and defraud New Jersey’s healthcare system.”
