MUMBAI: (Jul 9) On the centenary of legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt’s birth, his younger brother Devi Dutt fondly recalled the man behind the camera — a creative genius with a fiery temper but an even greater capacity to win hearts.
Best known for masterpieces like Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Guru Dutt left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. But to Devi, he was also a brother who balanced his passionate outbursts with deep emotional warmth.
“He was wonderful. Yes, he got angry often and spoke his mind freely. But just as quickly, he would make you feel like nothing had happened — he had a way of touching hearts,” Devi Dutt shared in an interview with PTI.
Among the many memories he cherishes, one stands out — a wristwatch gifted by Guru Dutt on his wedding day, which he has preserved to this day as a symbol of their enduring bond.
