‘Cry as Much as You Want’: Teacher’s Words Preceded Delhi Teen’s Suicide, Claims Father

A Class 10 student from a well-known private school in Delhi, who died by suicide earlier this week, had been facing persistent humiliation from teachers, his family has alleged. Sixteen-year-old Shourya Patil’s father, Pradeep Patil, claims his son had endured a year of mockery, mistreatment, and emotional pressure at school, ending in a tragedy that has shaken the community.

According to Pradeep Patil, Shourya had repeatedly told his parents that he was being ridiculed and “ill-treated” by certain teachers. The harassment allegedly intensified whenever he voiced concerns about their behaviour or struggled to meet their expectations. The family says matters escalated further after they confronted the school about the alleged mistreatment, with staff reportedly warning that Shourya could be expelled.

On the day he died, Shourya was taking part in a school dance practice. During the rehearsal, he reportedly slipped and fell on stage. Instead of receiving help, he was allegedly scolded and embarrassed in front of classmates. Pradeep Patil says that when Shourya began to cry, a teacher told him, “Cry as much as you want, it doesn’t matter to me.”

He believes this final act of humiliation pushed his son deeper into distress.
