VADODARA (July 9): Ten people, including two siblings, lost their lives and nine others were rescued—some with injuries—after several vehicles fell into the Mahisagar river when a section of an old bridge collapsed in Vadodara district on Wednesday morning, according to officials.
The tragedy occurred when a slab of the 40-year-old Gambhira bridge near Padra town gave way, said Rohan Anand, Superintendent of Police (Vadodara Rural). The bridge connects central Gujarat with the Saurashtra region.
Dramatic visuals from the site showed a large portion of the bridge’s slab between two piers completely missing. The collapse caused multiple vehicles to plunge into the river below.
