Congress leads 13 parties in boycotting Constitution Day

New Delhi: After the Congress reached out to Opposition parties, 14 parties, including Congress, the Left, TMC, RJD, Shiv Sena, NCP, SP, IUML and DMK, boycotted the Constitution Day function held in the Central Hall of Parliament on Friday.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and others took part in the event.

In a series of tweets against the BJP government, Congress hit out the PM Modi comparing what the 'Constitution promises' against what the 'Modi government delivered'.

Our Constitution promises "liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship", however, in the last 7 years the Modi govt has decimated this integral Right. We must fight back.

The "unity and integrity of the nation" is imperative for a progressive India. We cannot allow this government to tear us apart.

Our fight for justice is unwavering, we will not stop until every Indian has "social, economic and political" justice - as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The exorbitant taxes this govt collects are supposed to fund welfare & infrastructure projects that benefit the people, not the whims and fancies of a vain government.

The great disparity - in one India there is a population struggling to make ends meet, in the other, there is a govt selling our nation for scraps to a handful of billionaires.

What makes a nation sovereign? Is it not control over its national borders. What happens when a nation loses control?

This govt has made it clear, the mandate of the people, the democratic spirit of our nation and the federal structure of our Republic, hold little meaning to them.

When the secular fabric of our nation begins to rip, the very DNA of India begins to fall apart.
