Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passes away

Mumbai: Legendary actor Dilip Kumar (98) passed away on Wednesday. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital on June 30. 

Dilip Kumar was known to generations of films. Popularly called ‘tragedy king’, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Hinduja Hospital. He was suffering from illness for a long time. Dr Jalil Parkar, pulmonologist of Hinduja Hospital treating veteran actor, announced the passing away of the actor. 

Dilip Kumar has acted over 65 movies. He has been credited for bringing distinct acting techniques to Bollywood; he was popularly referred to as the first khan of Bollywood. He was survived by his wife Saira Banu. 

Condolences messages have flooded on social media soon after his passing news broke. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that “Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world—condolences to his family, friends, and innumerable admirers. RIP”.

Another veteran actor, Amitabh Bachchan, tweeted that “An epic era has drawn curtains... Never to happen again".
