Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar was consigned to flame in the presence of national and state leaders, artists, fans and family at Mumbai's Shivaji Park on Sunday. The legendary singer was accorded a state funeral.

Mumbai: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar's nephew, Adinath Mangeshkar collected her ashes from Shivaji Park in Mumbai, where she was cremated with full state honours on Sunday.

Adinath is the son of Lata’s youngest sibling and only brother, Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Hridaynath is a brother to four sisters, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Meena Khadikar and Usha Mangeshkar, and youngest among them.

Today, both the Houses of Parliament paid tribute to Lata Mangeshkar. Rajya Sabha Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu said that the passing away of Lata Mangeshkar has created a void in the music world.

Maharashtra Government has declared a public holiday for February 7 to mourn the demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar. Two-day national mourning to be observed in memory of the departed soul.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the state funeral and paid his last respects to the mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar. 

PM Modi has expressed deep grief over the passing away of the legendary singer, often called as 'Nightingale of Bollywood'. The Prime Minister has spoken to her family and expressed his condolences. He also said that the coming generations would remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.
