Ahmedabad: India defeated West Indies by 6 wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the ODI series at Motera stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. 

A memorable 1000th ODI game for India as the opted to bowl first. Spin duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar did most of the damage with the ball, scalping 7-wickets between them to restrict West Indies to 176.

The Indian Cricket Team wore  black armbands to pay their respects to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar who passed away on Sunday morning. 

BCCI said in a tweet, "The queen of melody, Lata didi loved cricket, always supported the game and backed Team India". 

Legendary playback singer  Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, aged 92, passed away  due to multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post- COVID-19.  Soon after the news of Lata Mangeshkar’s death, several fans, politicians, and celebrities took to Twitter and paid tribute to the legendary singer.

Rohit Sharma top-scored in the chase with 60, before debutant Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav's unbeaten half-century stand, guided the hosts to victory. 

Rohit Sharma, Captain, India: "We want to keep getting better as a team it was a great effort from everyone. We ticked all the boxes. I'm open to a lot of things if we need to change. The goal is we should be able to achieve whatever the team wants. But, honestly, I don't think we need to change a whole lot. All I will ask of the players is to challenge yourself. I have been out for a while, haven't played for two months but I was back home hitting the balls. I knew there was a long season ahead. Had a good net session here and I was confident going into this game. Can take a lot of positives from today, the pitch had something in it. There was softness early on and in this particular game, the toss became important. I honestly want to take it away from the play, but if you win the toss, you take advantage of it."

Yuzvendra Chahal is the Man of the Match for figures of 4/49! 

Yuzvendra Chahal said, "Washington struck twice in an over, so the pressure was on them. and I just wanted to maintain that pressure. Watching Washington bowl, felt that the ball was gripping. Had a chat with Rohit, Virat, and they said the pace was important."

The Indian cricket team played 1000th ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Team became the first team in the world to feature in 1000 ODIs.
