Indian Nurse on Death Row in Yemen Faces Execution on July 16; Family Says No Official Confirmation Yet

NEW DELHI: (Jul 9) An Indian nurse facing a death sentence in Yemen is reportedly scheduled to be executed on July 16, according to her family, who claim they have received no formal communication from Indian or Yemeni authorities.
The nurse, originally from Kerala, has been imprisoned in Yemen for several years after being convicted in a case the family insists was based on false or unclear charges. Human rights activists and relatives have repeatedly appealed for her release, citing a lack of due process.
“We’ve only heard about the execution date through local sources. There has been no official update from the Indian Embassy or the government,” said a family member.
The Ministry of External Affairs has yet to issue a public statement on the matter. Diplomatic efforts are reportedly underway, but the situation remains uncertain with just days left before the reported execution date.
Humanitarian organizations have urged the Indian government to intervene immediately to halt the execution and ensure a fair review of the case.
