CWC unanimously rejects resignation of Gandhis, Sonia Gandhi to continue as interim president
Before the meeting began, senior Congress leaders took the blame for the poll defeat on themselves.
New Delhi: Congress Working Committee (CWC) to continue with Sonia Gandhi as interim president of the party till the next president takes over.
Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi in her speech said that if the party feels we all three (herself, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) are ready to resign, but CWC unanimously rejected this, reported news agency ANI.
CWC unanimously reaffirmed its faith in the leadership and requests Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi to lead from the front, address organisational weaknesses, effect comprehensive changes in order to take on the political challenges.
The CWC has also decided to have a detailed deliberation on the party strategy and way forward in the upcoming elections in 2022, 2023 and 2024. A 'Chinta Shivir' of the senior leaders will be held immediately after the current Parliament session.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said "We all told Sonia Gandhi that she alone is not responsible for the defeat in 5 states, every state leader and MP is responsible, not Gandhi family. We reimposed our faith in her, there's no question of offering resignation".
"Strategies for strengthening the party were discussed... we'll fight BJP and its ideology; push our ideology and hope that in the next elections, we do much better than before", added Kharge.

Ashok Gehlot added, " Rahul Gandhi should become the party president. For the last three decades, nobody from the Gandhi family became a PM or a minister. It is significant to understand that the Gandhi family is important for Congress' unity".
Uttarakhand leaders Harish Rawat considered himself responsible for the defeat. 'Don't know how to face Sonia Gandhi'. he said.
