Why make The Kashmir Files tax-free, upload film on youtube, says Kejriwal to filmmaker

New Delhi: The controversial film ‘The Kashmir Files ‘ of Vivek Agnihotri which is making waves in the country, has become a topic of discussion for both; BJP and the opposition.

The movie got mentioned in the Delhi assembly also where Chief Minister of the AAP government, Arvind Kejriwal took exception to the BJP government’s decision to make the film tax free.

Wondering why the government is making the film tax free instead of asking the filmmaker to upload it on youtube so that everyone will watch it for free.

Replying to the demand of BJP MLAs of Delhi asking the AAP government to make the film tax free, Kejriwal said that the BJP MLAs are saying make The Kashmir Files tax-free. Well, put it on YouTube it will be free," said Kejriwal amid laughter and thumping of desks by Delhi assembly members.

"Why are you asking us to make it tax-free. If you are so keen, ask Vivek Agnihotri to put it on YouTube, it will all be free. Everyone will be able to see it in a day. Where is the need to make it tax-free," Kejriwal replied?

It may be noted that the majority of the BJP ruled states in the country have already made the film tax free.

Interestingly, the film has received unprecedented support from the government as even the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi himself has endorsed the film which is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from the Kashmir valley during the height of militancy.

Responding to Kejriwal's comments, BJP leader BL Santosh pointed out that the Chief Minister had earlier declared "Nil Batte Sannatta" and "Sand Ki Aankh" tax-free and urged people to watch it.

"Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal asks @vivekagnihotri to upload #KashmirFiles on YouTube .. Why tax concessions ..? That doesn't apply for other films .. Shame on you Ad CM .... Shame," tweeted BL Santosh spotlighting the Chief Minister's earlier tweets.

After the film faced criticism from many opposition leaders and activists for showing one-sided truth and calling the film BJP propaganda, the BJP government has provided 'Y' category security cover to director Vivek Agnihotri as the government feels he is facing a life threat.
