Veteran politician Madegowda passes away
Mandya: Veteran politician and former Lok Sabha from Mandya parliamentary constituency G. Madegowda (94) passed away on Saturday.
Gowda, a prominent face in Cauvery agitation, was battling age-related illness.
Madegowda served as Forest Minister in R. Gundurao-led Congress Government in the 1980s. He was elected thrice from the then Kirugavalu Assembly segment in the Mandya district. He was also elected as Lok Sabha MP from Mandya twice in 1989 and 1991.
Gowda was a prominent face of the Cauvery agitation in Karnataka. He was hailed as Cauvery Putra (Son of Cauvery) for his commitment to the cause.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said Gowda imbibed the teachings of Gandhi and was at the forefront of the Cauvery river water sharing distribution agitations.
Madegowda is survived by two sons and two daughters,.
