SIT Begins Excavation at Dharmasthala Site Following Witness Identification of 13 Suspected Mass Graves

The investigation into the alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala has reached a pivotal stage, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) commencing the exhumation of bodies from designated burial sites in Dharmasthala village, located in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
The complainant was escorted to the site by SIT officials, including International Security Division SP Jitendra Kumar Dayama—who is also the investigating officer—alongside Puttur Assistant Commissioner Stella Varghese and Belthangady Tahsildar Pruthvi Sanikam. Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) experts and Scene-of-Crime Officers (SOCO) were also present to ensure scientific accuracy and adherence to protocol, according to the official report.
The entire exhumation process is being videographed by SIT personnel as part of formal documentation.
Earlier in the day, DIG M N Anucheth led a detailed briefing session at the SIT office in Belthangady before the team proceeded to the site.
