The death of a 24-year-old Ayurveda doctor in Kerala’s Kollam district shook the conscience of the state. The victim, Vismaya V Nair, was found dead days after she shared on WhatsApp chats with close relatives alleged torture by her husband.
A day after the suspected suicide, police arrested her husband on charges relating to dowry death.
The Governor had recently visited the house of one of the dowry victims to meet her family. He had also urged society to take a stand against dowry, according to reports.
