Hockey player Vandana Katariya's family faces casteist slurs for Olympic loss

Haridwar: Indian Women's hockey team player Vandana Katariya's family in Haridwar reportedly faced the casteist slurs for losing semifinal match against Argentina 1-2 at the Tokyo Olympics.

Vandana's brother, Lakhan Katariya, filed a complaint with the police, alleging that following the Indian team's defeat at the semifinal match, a handful of his neighbours hurled casteist remarks at his family.

Vandana is the first ever Indian woman to score a hat-trick at the Olympics.

Two men said India lost the match because there were “too many Dalits players” on the team, Katariya’s family told Times of India.
