Farmers continue sit-in protest at Mini Secretariat in Karnal

Karnal: Farmers continue sit-in protest at Mini Secretariat in Karnal on Wednesday. Farmers held a march and gheraoed mini secretariat on Tuesday after district administration refused to compensate injured protesters and to take action against administration officials over lathi-charge on farmers on August 28.

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said, "We have captured the gate, want to take some rest, no time for talks, it can happen later." 

"The administration has tried to give an explanation of SDM's earlier action. We will hold a meeting with farmers to make a decision on our further actions," he said.

DC Nishant Kumar Yadav, IG Mamta Singh and SP Gangaram Punia and other senior officers are still holding talks with the protesters so that some positive solutions can be found. 

The mahapanchayat is being held against police lathi-charge on farmers on August 28. Over 10 protesters were injured after the Haryana Police had lathi-charged a group of farmers disrupting traffic movement on a national highway near Karnal on August 28 while heading towards Karnal to protest against a BJP meeting.

Haryana Government instructed to suspend internet services from 12.30 pm to 2359 hours on September 7 in view of the call of Kisan Mahapanchayat in Karnal district. The instruction has been given to maintain law and order following the inconclusive meeting of farmers with the Karnal administration.
