The government has failed to convene the annual labour conference for the past decade and continues to push policies that undermine workers’ rights, the forum stated. It accused the Centre of attempting to enforce four labour codes that weaken collective bargaining, restrict union activities, and favor employers under the guise of promoting ‘ease of doing business’.
Harbhajan Singh Sidhu of the Hind Mazdoor Sabha said the nationwide strike is expected to disrupt key sectors including banking, postal services, coal mining, factories, and state-run transport systems. Additionally, power supply may be affected on July 9, with over 27 lakh electricity workers set to participate in the Bharat Bandh.
