Bengaluru: Akshay Kumar’s much-anticipated movie, Bachchan Pandey, is all set to hit the silver screens today. The big-budget film, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, is the remake of the Tamil hit movie Jigarthanda.

The film was earlier scheduled to be released on December 25, 2020, but was changed to January 22, 2021, due to Aamir Khan’s request, but COVID's rising cases forced the team to postpone the movie release, and finally, the film will be released today.

The film also stars Kirti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Pankaj Tripathi, and Prateik Babbar. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by Farhad Samji. According to a report, Akshay's previous film, Sooryavanshi, was a hit. The movie earned Rs 196 crore at the domestic box office.

Bachchan Pandey is likely to face stiff competition from The Kashmir Files, which was released in theatres last Friday. Because of its content, The Kashmir Files movie is drawing audiences, and its craze is unlikely to die down soon. The movie is all set to enter the 100 crore club. The film was given more screens as a result of the overwhelmingly positive response from viewers. 

It was initially released in 600 cinema halls. Bachchan Pandey is likely to face a challenge from getting single-screen theatres as the owners may not show interest in replacing the Kashmir Files.

Bachchan Pandey is expected to open to packed houses on the first day as the people are celebrating Holi.
