Tokyo Paralympics 2020:  Pramod Bhagat clinches Gold medal in singles badminton, Manoj Sarkar bags Bronze

Tokyo: Pramod Bhagat won the Gold medal in badminton men's singles SL3 and Manoj Sarkar bagged the Bronze in badminton men's singles SL3 at the Tokyo Paralympics on Saturday.

Trailing the second game by 8 points at one stage, Pramod Bhagat went on to win the game 21-17.

Pramod Bhagat, a four-time world championship gold medalist, defeated Great Britain's Daniel Bethell 21-14, 21-17 in 45 minutes to win India's historic gold.

Manoj Sarkar, who lost the semi-final of SL3 event earlier, won the bronze Japan's Daisuke Fujihara in straight games (22-20, 21-13). Now, India's medal tally has reached 17.

PM Narendra Modi congratulates para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat after the latter secured a gold medal in badminton men's singles SL3 at Tokyo Paralympics. "Pramod Bhagat has won the hearts of the entire nation. He is a Champion, whose success will motivate millions," tweets PM Modi.

Also, PM Modi congratulated Manoj Sarkar on his victory. "Congrats to him for bringing home the prestigious Bronze Medal in badminton".
