Tamil Nadu all-party delegation meets Gajendra Singh Shekhawat

New Delhi: All-party delegation from Tamil Nadu urged Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat not to support Karnataka with the Mekedatu dam project.

Tamil Nadu all-party delegation led by Minister for Water Resources Durai Murugan submitted Detailed Project Report (DPR). The minister stressed that riparian states' consent is necessary to begin the Mekedatu dam.


Early this week, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa again asserted that the state has got every right to implement the Mekedatu project across river Cauvery, despite objections from Tamil Nadu.

Yediyurappa held discussions with Union Jalshakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. He sought clearances from the Centre for implementing Mekedatu and other irrigation projects in the state.

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was in Bengaluru to review the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Karnataka. Also, he assured justice to Karnataka in pending irrigation projects.
