SP veteran photo with Mohan Bhagwat is big issue in UP Assembly elections

Lucknow: In the midst of Uttar Pradesh elections, both Congress and ruling BJP have tried to create controversy over a photo of Samajwadi Party veteran Mulayam Singh Yadav and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, both were attended a wedding reception of the granddaughter of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

Mr. Yadav and Mohan Bhagwat met on Monday at a wedding reception in Delhi. Incidentally, the meeting of both leaders happened two days after tax raids of the aides of Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, son of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Both leaders were seen sitting together at the wedding reception, the photo was first tweeted by Union Minister Arjun Meghwal, he sought the blessings of the RSS chief on his birthday.

However, both Congress and BJP have tried to make an issue out of it. Uttar Pradesh BJP has tweeted that A picture says a lot, by tagging a photo.

Congress has tweeted that taking aim at the Samajwadi Party. "Is the S in the 'new SP' meant to be Sanghawad," the Uttar Pradesh Congress sneered in its post in Hindi.

For wedding receptions, many big wigs have arrived including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India, N.V. Ramana.

As the state's ruling BJP campaigns to retain power, it faces a tough challenge this time from Samajwadi leader Akhilesh Yadav. Allegations have been flying between the two sides. Stung by the Congress tweet, a furious Samajwadi Party did not hold back.

"The Congress has put up a photo from an event where leaders of its ally NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) also sought Netaji's (Mulayam Singh) blessing. What does the Congress have to say to this?" the Samajwadi Party replied on the Congress tweet.

Just two days before the Mulayam Singh-RSS meeting, Akhilesh Yadav's aide and top Samajwadi leaders were raided by Income Tax officials, which prompted a sharp reaction from the former Chief Minister, NDTV reported.
