Rain havocs Belagavi, train derails at Dudhsagar

Belagavi: Normal life of the people has been completely disrupted in the district due to unprecedented rains in the last 24-hours. 

People of Chikkodi, Khanapura, Sankeshwara, Nippani have been shifted to safer places, houses and agricultural fields have been completely waterlogged, crops and livestock have been damaged in the district. 

Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, and its tributaries have been overflowing and many bridges have been submerged. More than 120 villages have been affected by the flood. Due to the overflowing of the Vedaganaga river, Pune- Bengaluru National Highway has been blocked. 

Besides, heavy rainfall has been reported in Dakshina Kannada, Chiamagaluru, Kodagu, Hasana, Raichur, Hubballi-Dharwad 

districts. Chief Minister has held video conferences with deputy commissioners of rain-affected districts. He had also plan to visit the rain-affected Belagavi district on Sunday. 

Heavy rainfall reported in Maharashtra, water storage in Koyna dam has reached the maximum level, water has been released, so Krishna river also been overflowing due to rain in western ghat of Maharashtra. 

Traffic jam has been reported in the Vanamuri ghat section of Belagavi taluk due to waterlogging. Police have visited the spot to clear the traffic. Four-wheeler and two-wheeler riders have faced difficulties to move their vehicles due to waterlogging on roads. 

Special train commuting from Mangaluru to Mumbai has derailed at Dudhsagar, there is an untoward incident occurred.
