New Delhi: In an interesting development, believed to be the result of his loyalty to the party and his hard work, the BJP High Command named Pushkar Singh Dhami the next CM of the hilly state, despite the fact that he lost in the recent assembly polls.

Pushkar Singh Dhami emerged as the man to be trusted by the party's high command and is going to CM of Uttarakhand as his defeat did not come as a hurdle in his path to the chair of CM.

It hinted at a "big picture" decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, political observers say.

Dhami is believed to have been chosen for the post in order to end any internal frictions in Uttarakhand's BJP unit and the government. The party leaders feel that Dhami’s present to end all the possible issues arising for becoming the CM.

Dhami was the third CM the hilly state witnessed in the five-year term of the BJP rule.

The youngest Chief Minister of the state, the 46-year-old will now have to win the by-polls within the next six months. Pushkar Dhami's selection was announced by Rajnath Singh on Monday.

"In six months, Dhami left his imprint on Uttarakhand which manifested in the election results," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, one of the party's "central observers" to the state, told reporters after announcing Dhami's election as the legislature party leader by the MLAs.

The BJP has shown confidence in Dhami and made him CM again while Rajnath claimed that all MLAs unanimously supported him.

Both Dhami and Sawant got the final green light after a meeting at PM Modi's residence on Sunday evening, the latest in a series of high-powered huddles since the results were declared on March 10, they added.
