Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar-led Mekedatu Padayatra, in the face of COVID-19 surge in the state, has resulted in two senior leaders testing positive for coronavirus.

Bengaluru:  A PIL has been filed in Karnataka High Court against ongoing Mekedatu Padyatra (march) led by Congress leaders. The Mekedaru Padyatra was flagged-off on January 9 at Mekedatu. 

Advocate Sridhar Prabhu has requested for urgent hearing of the PIL, saying the padayatra might become Coronavirus super-spreader because of the government's inaction. The leaders without masks are meeting children.   

The PIL has been has been mentioned before Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Ritu Raj Awasti and Justice Suraj Govindraj.

The High Court, hearing the  PIL, reprimanded State Government for not taking action in the matter of violation of COVID norms during Congress' Mekedatu padayatra; and asked why the Government allowed the padayatra. Also, the court also sent a show-cause notice to KPCC in the matter

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar-led Mekedatu Padayatra, in the face of COVID-19 surge in the state, has resulted in two senior leaders testing positive for coronavirus. 

Two Karnataka Congress leaders who are part of Mekedatu march-Former minister HM Revanna and MLC CM Ibrahim- have tested positive for Covid a day after DK Shivakumar refused to take the COVID-19 test. HM Revanna and MLC CM Ibrahim have attended the first day of a 10-day long march demanding the construction of a Mekedatu reservoir across the Cauvery river. Both the leaders had come in contact with Shivakumar during the march.

D.K.Shivakumar termed that the police notice issued under the 144 section directing Congress not to conduct Padayatra was contrary to the order of the Supreme Court order.
