Only Covaxin approved for aged less than 18 years

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin has proved a 77.8 efficacy rate fighting against Coronavirus, revealed by a medical journal Lancet.

New Delhi: Only Covaxin has been approved for beneficiaries aged less than 18 years in the COVID-19 vaccination for teens started from January 3, on Monday. 

Union Health Ministry said only Covaxin is approved for beneficiaries aged less than 18 years. Beneficiaries aged 18 and above are eligible for all vaccines. Validations have been in place in the Co-WIN system to ensure that vaccination is carried out as per government policy.  

Over 8 lakh teens have registered in the Government CoWIN portal, they would get Covaxin doses. Schools and colleges have been informed about the vaccination program, in consultation with schools and colleges, vaccination programs will be carried out at hospitals and health centres across the country.

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin has proved a 77.8 efficacy rate fighting against Coronavirus, revealed by a medical journal Lancet. The Made in India vaccine has demonstrated effectiveness against all variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The efficacy rate was confirmed through the evaluation of 130 confirmed cases, with 24 observed in the vaccine group against 106 in the placebo group, stated in the report.

According to phase 3 data, Covaxin was found 65.2 per cent effective against delta variant and 93.4 per cent effective against severe symptomatic Covid and 63/6 per cent effective against asymptomatic Covid.
