Ind-SL second test: India register victory, win series by 2-0

Bengaluru: India has registered a comprehensive victory against Sri Lanka in the second test match here at Chinnaswamy stadium. India won the series against Sri Lanka by 2-0.

First day and night, pink ball test hosted by India. India won the second test by 238 runs.

The first test match was held in Mohali on March 4 and the day and night second test match was held in Chinnaswamy stadium on March 12th.  Like in the first test, India won the second test too on the third day.

In the second innings, Sri Lanka had all out for 208, the Captain, Dimuth Karunaratne only batsman faced the Indian bowlers and scored a century. Kusal Mendis scored 54 runs.

From the Indian side, Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets, Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took four wickets and Axar Patel took 2 wickets.

India declared second innings at 303 for nine wickets. Iyer and Pant scored 67 and 50 runs respectively. Chasing quite an impossible target of 447 runs, Sri Lanka lost one wicket for 28 runs at stumps. The visitors need to survive three full days to chase the target.

In the first innings, Jasprit Bumrah has taken 5 wickets, restricted the Lankan batsmen to 109 runs. Bumrah has given a jolt to visitors by taking one wicket in the second innings. It was  Bumrah’s maiden five-wicket haul in Tests on home soil.

Victory: It is a comfortable victory, a win that was never in doubt and was done within 8 sessions.

That's how the dice rolls in India. Shreyas Iyer's 92 ensured that India had a comfortable total on board. Then Indian facers, Bumrah and Shami, blew Sri Lanka away, as the ball swung corners. Six wickets in the session and four more on the second morning - the visitors were dismissed for 109.

With a big lead in their kitty, India batted positively in their second dig, although the pitch did improve once again. Pant's 28-ball 50, the fastest by an Indian in Tests was the icing on the cake, while Shreyas made 50s in both innings.

India declared at 303 for 9, setting a world record target of 447. It wasn't happening, but Sri Lanka didn't roll over, at least their captain scored his 14th Test hundred and delayed the victory for India. But Indian victory happened with 35 minutes to go for dinner.

India dominates over Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka and India faced each other for the first time in a test on 17 September 1982 and Sri Lanka played their first test match against England on 17 February 1982. As of now (including these two test matches)Lanka has played a total of 299 test matches out of which they won 93 tests, lost 115 and 91 drawn. Against India, they have played 46 test matches, won 7 matches, lost 22, and 17 tests have been drawn.

India has a better winning percentage than Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka for the first time won the overseas Test series against New Zealand in 1967 and the last time they achieved victory was in 2019 against Australia. Considering the numbers in the test record of both the teams against each other, then India is a stronger side and have dominated Sri Lanka more times.

In ICC Test team ranking, India is standing at the top 2 positions and Sri Lanka is at the number 8 position. This shows that India has more winning chances in terms of numbers but the test series trophy will go in hands of those who perform best, cricketwa.com reported.
