Congress fields Chetna Pandey against Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur: Congress candidate Chetna Pandey to take on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur Urban seat in the ongoing Assembly Elections 2022. 

The Congress released its ninth list of 33 candidates for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. Chetna Pandey and 14 other woman candidates were given tickets by Congress out of the 33 candidates released on Thursday.

The Gorakhpur Urban constituency will go to the polls in the sixth phase of the elections on March 3.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has filed his nomination from the Gorakhpur Urban Assembly constituency on February 4. 

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who chaired a meeting of the BJP's Central Election Committee, took a final call to field Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur constituency. Political grapevine had it that he would contest from either Ayodhya or Mathura. Yogi has never contested for Assembly election before. He was the MP of Gorakhpur for five terms. Currently, he is a member of the Legislative Council.

Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Uttar Pradesh from 10 February to 7 March 2022 in seven phases to elect all 403 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022.
