Bommai requests Nirmala Sitharaman to release GST compensation
Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai met Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman here on Friday.
Mr. Bommai, who is also representing Karnataka in the GST council, urged the Finance minister to release Rs. 11.800 crore pending GST compensation to Karnataka. Home Minister requested the Union Finance minister to release grants to the pending projects of the Centre in Karnataka.
Nirmala Sitharaman is in Bengaluru for an official visit has assured the minister that she will consider the state demand positively. Nirmala Sitharaman assured that the Centre would provide pending GST compensation of Rs. 11800 crore as it has provided Rs. 18000 crore GST compensation of the previous year, Mr. Bommai said.
Union Finance Minister has assured to release GST compensation collected in the first quarter of 2021-22. We have discussed Covid management of the state and government preparation on the anticipated third wave of the covid. Minister has assured financial assistance for covid management in the state, Mr. Bommai said after meeting with Union Minister for Finance.
Nirmala Sitharaman appreciated the government's decision of announcing rupees one lakh compensation to BPL families that had lost earning members for Covid, Mr. Bommai said.
