For the very first time, the iconic Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru is being opened to the public. Starting June 1, people will be allowed to enter the grand building and explore its halls through guided tours. This initiative by the Department of Tourism, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), and the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker's Office aims to make the heart of the state's democracy more accessible to citizens.

A historic decision for public engagement The guided tours will give visitors a chance to understand the working of Karnataka's legislative system while enjoying the beauty of its stunning architecture. Visitors can join the tours on Sundays, and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Each tour day will allow up to 300 people, divided into smaller groups of 30 for smooth movement.

Tours will run from 8 am to 5 pm and will be conducted in both Kannada and English. The ticket costs only Rs 50 per person. However, for students up to Class 10 or below 15 years of age, the tour is free. They will need to register in advance. Tour guide Septhar shared that the building was designed by Kengal Hanumanthaiah, who wanted it to represent Indian identity and break away from British colonial designs. The building will not be open for tours on days when the Legislative Assembly or Council is in session, or when there are important security advisories. Another important rule is that single-use plastics are not allowed inside the building. This step is being taken to protect the environment and preserve the beauty of the site.
