Seven of a family killed after wall collapse due to heavy rain 

Belagavi: Seven people of a family were killed after a house collapsed at Badal- Ankalgi village in Belagavi on Wednesday. 

Due to heavy rain in the region, the wall of the house collapsed, five people have died on spot and two died on the way to the hospital. Among seven members two deceased were girl’s aged 8 years, the police said. 

Victims were members of single family, Arjun Khanagavi, his wife Satyavva Khanagavi (45), daughters Lakshmi (17) and Puja (8), their relatives Gangavva Khanagavi (50), Savita Khanagavi (28) and Kashavva Kolappanavar (8), the police added. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolence announced Rs. 2 lakh compensation to the deceased family. He tweeted that the loss of lives due to house collapse in Belagavi, Karnataka in saddening. My thoughts are with the bereaved kin in this hour of sadness. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be paid to the next of kin of the deceased”, he announced. 

Chief Minister Basavarj Bommai announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation to deceased family members. Bommai said that he has spoken to Govinda Karjol, the district in-charge minister, asked him to visit the spot and take necessary action. 

“ I have also spoken to Bheemappa, who survived in the incident, told him that government is with him”, he said. Mr. Karjol has visited the spot and hand over the Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the victim family members. Directed the district administration to arrange accommodation to the family members who survived in the incident. 

Police said that all killed in the incident are belong to construction workers who were renovating an old house and living in a shed nearby.
