Odisha Govt to sponsor national hockey teams 10 more years

Bhubaneswar: In a widely appreciated decision, the Odisha Government has extended its sponsorship of Indian National hockey teams by another ten years.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the sponsorship at a special function held to facilitate the Olympians of the national men's and women's hockey teams in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

The chief minister praised the players for making all proud with their spirited fight adding that these are deeply emotional moments for India to witness the revival of Indian Hockey. He further added that the hockey fans had been yearning to see India grab a medal at the Olympics for nearly four decades.

Following the announcement, Hockey India expressed gratitude towards the Chief Minister for his undying support and extending its partnership with the National Team. Also, skippers of men and women's hockey expressed their gratitude to CM Naveen Patnaik.

The Indian Men's team had lost just two games at the Olympics against teams better than them with respect to world rankings, and performance! The team Bronze medal after beating Germany at the Tokyo Olympics; a medal after 41 years of wait. The women's team reached the semifinals but finished at the 4th position at the Olympics. Th team lost against Great Britain in the Bronze medal match.
