Coromandel Express derails, 50 dead;  350 INJURED

Eight bogies of 12841 UP Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed after colliding with a goods train near Bahanaga Station.The accident happened around 7.20pm near Bahanaga Bazar station when the train was on the way to Chennai Central station from the Shalimar station near Kolkata.There has been no information of any casualties due to the derailment and collision of the Coromandel Express train in Balasore but many more passengers are feared injured in the collision. The administration has launched a search and rescue operation.As many as 132 injured passengers have been shifted to different near by local hospitals. Nearly 50 ambulances have been deployed. Large number of buses are being mobilised to shift injured to hospitals, said Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena. One NDRF team is at the triple-train crash site in Odisha's Balasore district while five more are being rushed to the spot, officials said on Friday. The estimated strength of these six teams is more than 240 personnel, they said. The teams are equipped with stretchers, gas cutters, lifting pads, first-aid kits and other equipment, and sniffer dogs, NDRF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Manoj Kumar Yadav told PTI.
