Bommai to visit flood-hit Uttara Kannada today

Bengaluru: On the first tour after swearing-in as chief minister, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai would inspect flood-hit areas in Uttara Kannada district on Thursday.

The chief minister said repair and restoration works will be done on a war footing. He met former CM BS Yediyurappa in Bengaluru ahead of his visit to the flood-affected district today.

CM Bommai will be visiting flood-hit Yallapura, Ankola, Karwar taluks to assess the damage to lives and property due to heavy rains. Also, he would discuss with MLAs, officers rescue and rehabilitation operations.

Nine people have died, and three were missing in Karnataka, with heavy rains battering several parts of the coastal, the Malenadu and north-interior region of the state.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority data, 283 villages in 45 taluks have been lashed by rains, affecting a population of 36,498.
