AIADMK protests statewide against arrest of former minister D Jayakumar

Chennai: Hundreds of AIADMK party workers staged a protest in Coimbatore and other parts of Tamil Nadu condemning the arrest of former minister D Jayakumar. Members of the AIADMK party workers are staging a protest in all the district headquarters of Tamil Nadu on Monday, condemning the arrest of the leader.

In Coimbatore, the party cadres hit the road and raised slogans against the DMK party. Jayakumar was arrested on Monday night by the Chennai police on the charges of assaulting a DMK party worker, forcing him to remove his shirt, and paraded him naked in full public view during the recently held local body elections.

The protesters termed the arrest of the AIADMK leader as an act of political revenge by the DMK government. They also protested against alleged malpractices in the recent elections.

A similar protest was held by the AIADMK cadre in the Thiruvarur district. During the protest, slogans were raised condemning the DMK government for making false allegations against AIADMK leaders and workers.

The protest was led by AIADMK Thiruvarur district secretary Kamaraj. Hundreds of party workers and AIADMK executives from the Thiruvarur district attended the demonstration in large numbers.

In Thoothukudi district, hundreds of party workers hit the road and blocked the roads, they raised slogans against the DMK government.

AIADMK Joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami said that the people are watching this dictatorial government. He said Jayakumar nabbed a person who was trying to cast a bogus vote and the leader stopped him and handed over the police. But the state government arrested him ( Jayakumar) who was discharging his democratic duty.

Palaniswami alleged that Chief Minister MK Staling is taking an act of political revenge on the opposition party by sending him to jail.  The act is highly condemnable, he said.
