CM N Biren Singh wins in Heingang assembly, BJP all set to retain Manipur

Imphal:  Chief Minister N Biren Singh wins by 18,000 votes Heingang constituency. He won from the seat in 2017. Congress candidate Pangeijam Saratchandra Singh was trailing against the CM. The Bharatiya Janata Party leading on 26 seats in Manipur, one of the Northeast states. The Congress is leading on nine seats and others on 26.

BJP looking to retain power, Assembly polls in Manipur were conducted in two phases on February 28 and March 5.

In Manipur, the BJP faces the Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance, which includes the Congress, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Forward Bloc, the Revolutionary Socialist Party, and the Janata Dal (Secular).

National People’s Party (NPP), Naga People’s Front (NPF) and JD(U) are also throwing a stiff competition to the saffron party. 

In Manipur, the BJP formed its first government by N Biren Singh, a former minister of Congress in the year 2017. The BJP which was at the second spot, winning 21 seats did not lose time in stitching alliances and formed the government with four MLAs of the National People’s Party and Naga People’s Front and three other MLAs. The Congress had won 28 seats.
