KOLKATA: (Jul 5) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain across several parts of West Bengal due to the possible formation of a low-pressure area over the Gangetic region of the state.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) is expected in Purulia, Jhargram, and Paschim Medinipur districts. Additionally, heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) is likely in Paschim Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, and Bankura districts.

The weather department attributed the expected downpour to the combination of a developing low-pressure system and an active monsoon flow over the region.
